The Department of Women and Gender Studies, Institute of Gender and Development Studies Makerere University will, (this Friday 24th April 2026) host a conversation on Men, Masculinity and Medicine. Drawn from the broader theme on Masculinities and health, the conversation, open to the public, brings the academia and medical practice into dialogue on a range of issues concerning men, men’s lifestyles and how different forms of masculinities influence men (and Women’s) Health outcomes. We explore how socially constituted ideas about “being/becoming a man” shape men’s physical, mental and social wellbeing. Working with real health experiences – COVID-19 Pandemic, HIV/AIDS, TB, among others, we explore masculine health seeking behaviours, masculine vulnerabilities and possibilities for transforming masculinities for positive health outcomes.
